Luxury ski hotel with the perfect balance between inside and outside
Hotel MiL8, located in Avoriaz, France, targets an audience of ski enthusiasts. But even without snow sports, it is a lovely place thanks to its comfortable and cosy interior. The lovely swimming pool and spectacular mountain views complete the picture.
Renowned architect Hervé Marullaz pulled out all the stops in this four-star hotel. The whimsical geometric shape of the new building immediately catches the eye. It is a kind of butterfly structure with an abundance of protruding balconies and both square windows and round 'portholes' in the façades. The cladding in light wood allows the hotel to blend in nicely with the landscape. In the swimming pool, originally built on the first floor, you swim from inside to outside and back again.
A cocoon of warmth and luxury
Inside, visitors enter a cocoon of warmth and luxury. The high entrance hall is clad in very dark-tinted wood, beautifully contrasted with the unusual white pendant lights. The guest rooms are rather compact and have a cosy decoration with carpet, soft cushions and mainly dark and natural tones. There is a TV screen, of course, but all the attention goes to the beautiful mountain views, which you can admire from your bed.
Slatted cladding for extra cosiness
Nature is literally invited in thanks to the abundance of wood in the interior. Several walls and built-in furniture in the rooms are clad in a veneered slatted structure in a light wood tone that nicely matches the colour of the exterior wall cladding. The slatted walls then fit perfectly into the cozy and comfortable design atmosphere.
